Buyer's Guide: Desk Plants

Desk Plants - How To Pick The Best Plants For Your Office Space

Desk plants are perhaps one of the simplest ways to add some sense of the outdoors to an otherwise lifeless office space. They can be used as both a decoration and a relaxing source of natural light. So if you feel a little bit removed from nature in your nine-to-five workday, then these are just twelve of our favorite desk plants for the office.

Desk plants can be a great way to bring color and life to a drab space, but they need to be looked after properly if you want them to thrive. As with indoor plants, desk plants need regular watering and lighting. This also means that you need to consider pruning if they grow too well. Some low-maintenance office plants can survive on their own for a few days, but it is always a good idea to give them a hand from time to time. Desk plants are easy to care for, but they do require a little extra attention.

Some of our favorite desk plants are actually rather delicate. There is such a thing as the "desk plant", which is actually a cactus. Although it does not come with a fan, it thrives in a somewhat cool (but not freezing) environment. This is perfect for any business that does not have room in their offices for a tropical room plant. Desk plants also thrive in areas of good air quality, so if your room is not airy, consider purchasing one of your favorite indoor plants and place them in a sunny spot.

One of our favorites among desk plants as succulents. These plants require almost no care and they love the limelight. If you are not comfortable with taking care of a succulent plant, then consider buying a houseplant or a low-maintenance "do-all" plant. Low-maintenance deck plants tend to be smaller than other, more exotic plants, so be sure to choose one that compliments the room you want to put it in. While these plants typically take a lot less time and energy to maintain than other, larger plants, they are generally not very high maintenance.

Cacti are one of our favorite desk plants because they are extremely versatile and very easy to care for. In fact, many people keep cacti simply because they look so great. A cactus can be placed in virtually any small area, including corners, along shelves, against walls, and even inside cabinets. Many cacti are actually quite small, so only needing a minimum of six hours of lighting, they do not really seem like much. They get their name from the dried pods that contain the foliage of a cactus, and when these pods are exposed to little light they appear to turn a shade of grey.

Many desk plants, such as java fern, have lovely flowers that need direct sunlight to bloom. This is why they are best kept in an area that gets at least four hours of bright sunlight every day. You can find such plants at almost any nursery. Java fern is especially great if you want to grow it indoors because it will not really matter what the temperature is outside because it will always be indoors.

Watering is another thing that you will need to consider carefully when looking for great low-maintenance desk plants. Some plants like to be watered a little bit more often than others, and there are a few that seem to thrive on a specific amount of water. Some of these plants will actually grow better if you water them just before or just after they bloom. It seems as though the more you water a low-maintenance desk plant, the better it tends to look and the more unique it will become.

One of my favourites is called the Red Queen, and is very easy to take care of. If you are looking for a desk plant that is low maintenance and still looks amazing, I highly recommend that you check out the red queen aloe plant. It has some gorgeous pink flowers that look perfect in your office space. It has also been reported to be able to purify the air in your office space, which will help you in making sure that your workstation remains clean. It is also great for helping to purify the air when you go out of town because it absorbs up to 30% of its weight in dirt, debris, and other irritants.
