Great Plants To Plant In The South-Central Texas Area

Choosing the perfect flowers to plant in Texas is not always as simple as some people may lead you to believe. Texas has a wide variety of native plants as well as exotic shrubs and trees. Depending on where you live, the climate and geography will determine the plants and flowers that will best suit your needs. Whether you live in a warm, sunny state like Texas or a cold, snowy one like New Mexico, there is certain to be the perfect flower and plant for you.

Texas has either five, six, or seven different geographic areas, each of which has its own unique temperate and scenic conditions. No matter the number, you can all but agree that all areas of this state are host to different plant species depending on various patterns of seasonal rainfall, hot and cold temperatures, plant-specific patterns of foliage, and other environmental factors. All of these elements will determine the ideal types of Texas flower and plant gardens that gardeners will want to design. The type and amount of greenery will also play a vital role in deciding which flowers and plants will thrive in your garden.

Of course, one of the most important things that need to be considered is the season. Spring flowering plants are usually among the most popular because they offer the maximum blooming and most colorful flowers. Spring bulbs such as tulips and daffodils bloom from early to mid-April through mid-June, making this the most optimal time for planting spring bulbs in your garden. On the other hand, winter flowers such as marigolds, hydrangeas, and irises bloom as late as October into November - the perfect time of year to consider planting long-lasting blooming plants like these.

A great tip for planting spring bulbs is to avoid planting them in extremely hot weather. While spring flowers may flower well in the morning or afternoon, heat during the evening hours usually damages these flowers. If possible, choose a different growing season to ensure proper flower growth.

Another tip is to choose flowers that are native to the state, such as the ubiquitous wildflower known as the Pima. The Pima has lived in the region for centuries and is found throughout the native habitat. Native to sunny areas and rocky cliffs, this native plant provides a beautiful blooming backdrop for a variety of landscapes in south-central Texas.

Birdwatcher's paradise is another native variety that is a popular choice for flower gardeners to plant. The Texas flower garden is filled with the most common bulbs, such as the Pima, which can be found in abundance. But there is much more to learn about these flowering plants and the amazing array of colors that can be found in the state. In fact, birdwatcher's paradise is one of the most popular gardens in all of Texas. Planting wildflowers in a garden of this scale is a very popular activity for many gardeners, and learning how to grow these native plants is an enjoyable activity.

Shrubs are also an important part of native landscaping ideas. Even if you have never planted a single shrub in your yard, you have probably seen one. In the state, you will find four main types of shrubs native to Texas: the bayberry, the brush, the scrub, and the tall redwood. Each of these plants is quite different from each others, but they all make great additions to your landscaping ideas.

Finally, there are some wonderful desert plants that make interesting accents in any south-central Texas landscape. These include the rough agave, a tall red yucca plant, the desert sunflower, and the shrubby brush tree. Rough agave is a succulent plant, and the desert sunflower is a cactus with succulent leaves. All three of these plants have their own unique beauty, and you may want to plant them in different areas in your yard. Desert plants offer some of the best color and texture in the state, and adding them to your landscaping ideas is a great way to bring life to your backyard.
